Eligibility
The simplified adult renewal process is available only if your most recent Canadian passport meets all of the federal renewal conditions. It must have been an adult passport issued when you were at least 16 years old, issued within the 15 years before your new application, and issued with 5-year or 10-year validity. The name, date of birth, place of birth and gender identifier requested for the new passport must remain the same.
If any of these conditions are not met, you must apply for a new adult passport rather than use the simplified renewal process. Child passports cannot be renewed. A person who was issued their previous passport while under 16 must apply for a new passport.
How to do it

Child passports cannot be renewed. A child needs a new passport application each time, and a person who has turned 16 after holding a child passport must apply for a new adult passport rather than renew the child passport.

On the back of one photograph, the photographer must write or stamp the name of the studio or company, the complete address and the date the photograph was taken.
A guarantor does not need to sign the photograph because adult simplified passport renewals do not require a guarantor.
Who can be a passport renewal reference?
You must provide 2 references. Each reference must be at least 18 years old, must have known you for at least 2 years and must agree to you providing their name and contact information.
References should remain reachable in case the Passport Program contacts them. If a reference is travelling or is in a substantially different time zone, verification may take longer and could delay processing.
Your spouse or common-law partner and specified relatives cannot serve as references. The government's prohibited-reference rules also cover a range of immediate and extended family relationships.
