How to Get Your Australian Immunisation History Statement
Get an official Australian Immunisation History Statement from the Australian Immunisation Register. Download it through myGov, request a printed copy, or access a child's record if they are under 14.
Helpydo structures practical guidance around official or public sources. For individual cases, confirm requirements with the responsible institution.
You can get your Australian Immunisation History Statement online through your Medicare online account linked to myGov or the myGov app. Select Medicare, then Proof of vaccinations, choose your name and open the Complete immunisation history statement PDF. If you cannot use Medicare online, your vaccination provider can print a statement or you can call the Australian Immunisation Register. People who are not eligible for Medicare can access their statement through the Individual Healthcare Identifiers service linked to myGov.
What you need
- For the standard online route, have a myGov account with your Medicare online account linked.
- If you are not eligible for Medicare, have a myGov account and link the Individual Healthcare Identifiers service; you need an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI).
- Anyone aged 14 or older generally accesses their own Immunisation History Statement because of privacy requirements.
- A parent or legal guardian can access the statement of a child under 14 who is listed on their Medicare card.
- If a vaccination is missing, ask a recognised vaccination provider to update the Australian Immunisation Register.
Eligibility
People whose vaccinations are recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register can obtain an Immunisation History Statement. If you are enrolled in Medicare, you are already included on the AIR. If you are not enrolled in Medicare, Services Australia can add you to the AIR when a recognised vaccination provider reports an immunisation. Adults and young people aged 14 or older generally obtain their own statements. A parent or legal guardian can access a child's statement when the child is under 14 and listed on their Medicare card. People who are not eligible for Medicare can access their statements online through the Individual Healthcare Identifiers service linked to myGov.
How to do it
- Sign in to myGov or the myGov app.
- If you use Medicare, select Medicare and then Proof of vaccinations.
- Select the person whose statement you want to view. You can access your own statement and, if eligible, the statement of a child under 14.
- Read and accept the declaration.
- Select Complete immunisation history statement.
- Select View Complete immunisation history statement (PDF).
- Save or print the PDF if you need to provide proof of your vaccinations.
- If you cannot access the statement through Medicare online, ask your vaccination provider to print it or call the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809.
- If you are not eligible for Medicare, link the Individual Healthcare Identifiers service to myGov and use Proof of vaccinations to view your statement.
What is an Australian Immunisation History Statement?
An Immunisation History Statement is an official record based on vaccination information held by the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), which is maintained by Services Australia.
The AIR is Australia's national register for vaccinations given to people of all ages. It includes vaccines given under the National Immunisation Program, through school programs and privately, including vaccines for influenza or travel.
A complete Immunisation History Statement shows vaccinations recorded on the AIR and can be used as proof of your vaccination history.
Which immunisation statement can you get?
Services Australia provides two types of statements. The Complete immunisation history statement shows the vaccinations recorded for you on the AIR. There is also a COVID-19 and influenza (flu) immunisation history statement that limits the information shown to those vaccinations and relevant recorded medical contraindications.
If you need a general official vaccination record rather than evidence limited to COVID-19 and influenza, choose the complete statement.
How do you get your statement through myGov?
If your Medicare online account is linked to myGov, you can obtain your statement online. Services Australia provides the following route:
- Sign in to myGov or use the myGov app.
- Select Medicare.
- Select Proof of vaccinations.
- Select the person whose document you want to view.
- Read the declaration and select Accept.
- Select View Complete immunisation history statement (PDF).
The statement opens as a PDF that you can save or print.
If you are enrolled in Medicare but have not yet linked Medicare to myGov, you need to complete that link before using this online route. When linking Medicare, Services Australia may ask for your Medicare card number and Individual Reference Number.
What if you are not eligible for Medicare?
You can still obtain your Immunisation History Statement online even if you are not eligible for Medicare.
Create or sign in to your myGov account and link the Individual Healthcare Identifiers service. You need an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI) to use this route.
After linking the service:
- Sign in to myGov.
- Select the Proof of vaccinations quick link and then View proof.
- Select your name and then View history.
- Select View Complete immunisation history statement (PDF).
If you later become eligible for Medicare and need help joining the program, see how to enrol in Medicare.
Can you get your child's Immunisation History Statement?
A parent or legal guardian can use their Medicare online account to get an Immunisation History Statement for a child under 14 who is listed on their Medicare card.
Once a child is 14 or older, privacy rules mean they generally need to obtain their own statement. They can use their own Medicare online account linked to myGov, the myGov app, ask their vaccination provider to print the statement, or contact the AIR.
A person aged 14 or older can consent to a parent obtaining a copy. When the parent calls the AIR, the young person must speak to the service officer to verify their identity and give consent. Services Australia states that consent must be provided each time a copy is requested.
A young person aged 15 or older who wants separate Medicare access can also read how to get their own Medicare card and number.
What if you cannot get the statement online?
If you cannot use Medicare online, your vaccination provider can print your Immunisation History Statement. You can also obtain vaccination information through My Health Record where available.
You can request a statement directly from the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809. Services Australia says a statement requested by post can take up to 14 days to arrive. The AIR enquiries line is listed as available Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
What if a vaccination is missing from your statement?
The statement reflects information that vaccination providers have reported to the AIR. A recent vaccination may therefore not appear until the provider's information has reached the register.
You cannot directly add or change vaccination information on the AIR yourself. Only a recognised vaccination provider can update the AIR. If a vaccination is missing, contact the provider that administered it and ask them to update your AIR record.
If a recognised provider updates the record directly through the AIR site, Services Australia says the change appears on your Immunisation History Statement straight away. Updates submitted through other methods can take longer.
What about vaccinations you received overseas?
Vaccinations received overseas may be added to the AIR by a recognised vaccination provider after the relevant vaccination information is assessed. Because individuals cannot update the AIR themselves, take your overseas vaccination evidence to an Australian recognised vaccination provider and ask whether the vaccinations can be added to your record.
Does the statement show a medical contraindication or natural immunity?
If you have a recognised medical contraindication or natural immunity recorded on the AIR, that information can appear on your Immunisation History Statement. Your doctor can update the AIR when the relevant requirements are met.
This means the statement may also serve as proof of your recorded vaccination status when a vaccination cannot be given for an accepted medical reason.
What can you use an Immunisation History Statement for?
An Immunisation History Statement can be used as proof of vaccinations. Depending on why evidence is requested, it may be relevant for school, child care, employment or travel.
The statement only reflects information held on the AIR. If an organisation requires a particular vaccine or another type of evidence, check that organisation's requirements rather than assuming the AIR statement alone satisfies every purpose.
Check your personal details if access does not work
The AIR uses information connected with your Medicare record when you are enrolled in Medicare. If you have trouble linking Medicare to myGov, Services Australia advises checking whether your myGov details match your Medicare details.
If your Medicare card itself has been lost, stolen, damaged or expired, see how to replace your Medicare card.
