Quick answer

Individuals in Ukraine can check tax debt online through the State Tax Service Electronic Cabinet or the free My Tax mobile app. In the Electronic Cabinet, sign in and open "Status of settlements with the budget" to see current assessments, payments, penalties, unpaid penalties, tax debt or overpayments by tax. You can select a liability and pay online by payment card, QR code or an available payment provider. My Tax also shows tax debt and budget settlements and supports online payment. Checking your own account through these services is free.

What you need

  • Be an individual taxpayer whose tax information is recorded by the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
  • For the Electronic Cabinet, use an accepted electronic identification method. The current official login options include a qualified electronic signature, ID.GOV.UA using supported MobileID or BankID identification, a cloud qualified electronic signature, and Diia.Signature.
  • For the My Tax mobile app, authenticate using a qualified electronic signature or Diia.Signature.
  • Have sufficient funds and an available payment card, QR-compatible banking service or offered payment method if you want to pay online.
  • If you need an official documentary confirmation rather than a live account check, submit the separate request for an extract on settlements with budgets and funds through the Electronic Cabinet.

Eligibility

An individual taxpayer can use the State Tax Service's private electronic services to check their own tax-account information. The Electronic Cabinet provides access to integrated taxpayer cards for taxes, fees and other payments, including assessments, payments, refunds, penalties, unpaid penalties, tax debt and overpayments. The My Tax mobile application provides individuals with access to budget-settlement and tax-debt information from a smartphone. Under the Tax Code, tax debt is an agreed monetary obligation that was not paid within the statutory deadline together with unpaid penalty interest calculated under the Code.

How to do it

  1. Open the State Tax Service Electronic Cabinet and enter its private section using an accepted electronic identification method, or sign in to the My Tax mobile app.
  2. In the Electronic Cabinet, select Status of settlements with the budget. In My Tax, use the relevant budget-settlement or tax-debt information under the app's personal-data and services sections.
  3. Review each tax or payment separately. Check the assessed amount, amounts already paid or refunded, current balance, penalty information and any displayed tax debt.
  4. In the Electronic Cabinet, select the tax you need to pay and open the payment option. Individuals can pay using an offered payment system, payment card or the National Bank of Ukraine QR code. My Tax also supports payment through the available payment methods.
  5. Check the generated payment details and amount carefully before confirming the transaction, then complete payment through your chosen payment provider.
  6. Return to your tax account after the payment has been processed and verify that the payment is reflected against the correct tax or liability.
  7. If the account still shows a debt you believe has already been paid, or an assessment appears incorrect, do not simply pay it a second time. Use the Electronic Cabinet to review the transaction history and contact the State Tax Service for reconciliation or correction.

Where can you check your tax debt online?

The State Tax Service provides two practical online routes for individuals: the Electronic Cabinet and the My Tax mobile app.

In the private section of the Electronic Cabinet, open "Status of settlements with the budget". The service gives real-time access to the accounting indicators in your integrated taxpayer cards. It shows information separately for the taxes and payments recorded for you.

The My Tax app provides individuals with tax information from a smartphone. The State Tax Service confirms that its "My Data" section includes information about tax debt and that the app also provides information about settlements with the budget and online tax payment.

What information can you see in the Electronic Cabinet?

The Electronic Cabinet shows a summary for each tax or payment and lets you open the detailed integrated taxpayer card. Current State Tax Service guidance says the account can show assessments, reductions, amounts paid, refunds, penalties, unpaid penalties, tax debt and overpayments.

The detailed card includes transaction dates and codes, amounts assessed or reduced, amounts paid or refunded, the settlement balance, penalty paid or refunded and the remaining unpaid penalty. The Electronic Cabinet currently allows settlement information for the previous two years to be viewed and the resulting information to be exported to XLS.

This is different from filing an annual return. If your task is to declare income rather than check an existing balance, use the separate Helpydo procedure on filing your individual property and income tax declaration online.

How do you sign in to your tax account?

The public part of the Electronic Cabinet does not expose your personal tax-account data. To see your own settlements and debt, enter the private section and complete electronic identification.

The State Tax Service's current login instructions list several methods: a qualified electronic signature, ID.GOV.UA through supported MobileID or BankID identification, a cloud qualified electronic signature, or Diia.Signature.

For the My Tax mobile app, current State Tax Service guidance states that authorization is available using a qualified electronic signature or Diia.Signature.

How do you pay the debt through the Electronic Cabinet?

After signing in, open "Status of settlements with the budget" and select the tax you need to pay. The State Tax Service's current instructions give the process as follows:

  1. Enter the private part of the Electronic Cabinet.
  2. Select "Status of settlements with the budget".
  3. Select the tax to be paid and an available payment system.
  4. Complete or verify the payment document.
  5. Confirm the tax payment.

For individuals, the service supports online payment using offered payment providers and a payment card, as well as a National Bank of Ukraine QR code. The account screen also displays the current budget account associated with each payment.

The My Tax application likewise provides a tax-payment function. State Tax Service guidance says individuals can use the app to pay through a QR code or one of the available payment systems or payment methods.

Can you check and pay from your phone?

Yes. The State Tax Service describes My Tax as its free mobile application for individuals and individual entrepreneurs. It is available for smartphones and provides access to personal tax information and selected electronic services.

Tax-debt information is available under My Data. The application also provides budget-settlement information and tax-payment functionality. Notifications can include information that tax debt exists or that an agreed tax liability needs to be paid.

This makes the app useful for a quick debt check, while the Electronic Cabinet is useful when you need the more detailed integrated taxpayer-card history or an official extract.

When does an unpaid amount become tax debt?

The Tax Code defines tax debt as an agreed monetary obligation that has not been paid by the deadline established by the Code, together with unpaid penalty interest calculated under the Code.

That distinction matters because seeing an assessed or agreed liability is not always the same as seeing overdue tax debt. Check the tax-account status, the payment deadline applicable to that particular liability and any tax notice-decision you have received rather than assuming every displayed assessment is already overdue.

Deadlines depend on the tax and how the liability arose. For example, the State Tax Service confirms that individuals must pay property-tax liabilities assessed through a tax notice-decision for real-estate tax, land tax or land rent within 60 days from delivery of that tax notice-decision. Do not apply that 60-day rule automatically to every other tax liability.

What should you do after paying?

Keep the payment confirmation from your bank or payment provider. Then return to "Status of settlements with the budget" and check the integrated card for the relevant tax after the transaction has been processed.

Match the payment to the correct tax and account rather than looking only at your total balance. The detailed integrated card lets you review the sequence of assessments and payments, which is useful if a balance does not change as expected.

If the account shows an overpayment rather than a debt and you need to recover eligible money, that is a different procedure. See how to claim a refund of overpaid or mistakenly paid taxes.

What if the amount in your tax account is incorrect?

Do not make a duplicate payment simply because an amount looks unfamiliar. First open the detailed integrated card and compare its assessments and payment history with your own payment documents.

The State Tax Service specifically provides a reconciliation route when taxpayers find discrepancies or unreliable information in "Status of settlements with the budget". Examples identified by the tax authority include duplicated assessments or payments and other differences between the taxpayer's documents and the Electronic Cabinet data.

If the issue cannot be explained from the account history, contact the State Tax Service and request reconciliation or correction, supplying the relevant payment or assessment evidence. If you made the payment to the wrong account or paid too much, the overpayment/refund procedure may apply instead.

Can you get an official document showing the balance?

Yes. The live "Status of settlements with the budget" screen is useful for routine checking, but the Electronic Cabinet also supports a formal request for an extract on the status of settlements with budgets and funds.

Use the private-section menu for applications and requests for information and select the current request form offered for the extract. The State Tax Service states that the resulting extract is delivered to the Electronic Cabinet no later than 15 working days after the request is received. The extract is generated for the period selected in the request, subject to the applicable limitation periods.

If you need information covering several calendar years, current State Tax Service guidance says to submit a separate request for each calendar year. Because electronic request-form versions can be updated, select the current form presented in the Electronic Cabinet rather than relying on an old form number copied from an earlier instruction.

What should you avoid when paying tax online?

  • Do not confuse an assessment with overdue tax debt. Check the relevant deadline and transaction history.
  • Do not pay an unfamiliar amount twice before checking whether an earlier payment is already recorded or pending.
  • Verify the tax, budget account, amount and generated payment details before approving the transaction.
  • Do not use an old bank account number saved from a previous payment when the Electronic Cabinet provides the current budget account for the selected tax.
  • If personal tax records cannot be matched correctly because your taxpayer details need attention, resolve the identification issue first. If you need an RNOKPP, see the Helpydo guide on getting a Ukrainian taxpayer identification number.
